Artist Statement

My show is a statement on my personal experience with hate crimes. This is a celebration of making it through the dark times and bringing awareness to the issue. Many people like me experience these daily around the states and I cannot stress how important it is that everyone is aware and checking up on their loved ones that might be at risk. Through this experience I became a strong individual that is not afraid to stand out. I was beat up because my nails were painted. I have always said I am glad it happened to me because I know I am strong and will bounce back from it. My heart goes out to all the people that do not bounce back and continue to live their lives in fear. The world is a scary place, even when you fit in, now imagine being hated for something you cannot change. That constant stress and fear is always with me that I fight on a daily basis when I go out into public. My show is a visual representation of the fear and constant struggle that happens on a daily basis.
